A haven for rookies and improving skiers, Val Cenis is Haute Maurienne's largest ski resort.

Flying under the radar, this cluster of five charming French Savoyard villages is a great place to escape the crowds and unwind. Plus, it's great value compared to its well-known neighbour, Val Thorens.

Best time to ski in Val Cenis

Thanks to north-facing slopes and runs sitting above 2000 metres, the snow coverage in Val Cenis is pretty good from mid-December until mid-April. Plus, the widespread snowmaking network keeps the powder topped up when needed - great news for skiers looking for a late-season Easter holiday deal.

January is a good bet for fresh snow if you can travel outside the peak holiday weeks. Or join in with the season-opening parties in December - you might even find some early season lift pass deals at this time too.

Things to do in Val Cenis

If a more relaxed après ski vibe is your scene, you're in the right place - the nightlife in Val Cenis is chilled and easy-going. Retreat to a cosy French restaurant to share some seriously gooey cheese fondue, and wash it down with a delicious glass of vin rouge. The prices won't break the bank either (always a bonus!).
